idely known as the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia is located on the bay bearing the same name and surrounded by Olivia and Susana Mountains. Thanks to a law of Industrial Support, many electronic factories, sawmills and shellfish canning factories have settled down here. However, the tourist industry is the most important source of revenue of this place, as many highly sought after circuits begin here. Many cruises sailing towards Antarctica stop in its international port. A picturesque seaside boulevard goes along the city, and in the dock known as Muelle Turistico, the visitor will find boats that permanently sail along the Beagle Channel. Twenty kilometres away from the city is Laguna Esmeralda, a true paradise for the practice of trekking in forests, glaciers and peat bogs. |
