CENTRAL PATAGONIA REGION
This passage includes the south of the province of CHUBUT and the north of the province of SANTA CRUZ
This beautiful region offers multiple and changing landscapes, ranging from wide beaches with great reefs to bays and fjords originated in the glaciers. It also displays uneven plateaus where the visitor may find large paleontological and mineral sites, ancient snowcapped peaks and magical petrified woods. Besides this wide variety of sceneries, a number of rivers, lakes, lagoons and canals cross over the territory, turning this region into a true paradise for sport fishing lovers and water sport fans. Variety takes other forms as well. The visitor will find big, modern, commercial cities and small residential villas, picturesque riverside towns, fishing ports and protected bays, and many farms and ranches devoted to cattle, fruit and vegetable production. There are many protected natural spaces where some unique animal species can be found. All these features make this region greatly appreciated by tourists looking for adventure tourism of every kind.
PROVINCE OF CHUBUT
This is one of the regions with the lowest density of population in the world. It has three clearly defined natural areas: the Andean region, humid and rainy, with huge lakes and dense woods; the central region, windy and deserted; and the Atlantic region, with a larger population, a profusion of seaside towns, sheep farming and an important fishing industry. All throughout its territory the visitor will find clear signs of the Welsh community: houses where tea is served the Welsh way and poetry is read out in that language, religious temples and the celebration of Disembarkation Day, commemorating the arrival of the first settlers to these lands. Oil production, petrochemical industries, sheep farming, fishing and tourism are the most important aspects of its economy. Its paleontological sites, located all along the region, display valuable samples of the immense creatures which inhabited the place hundreds of millions years ago. Its cuisine, besides the typical Welsh pastry, shares the main flavours of the rest of the Patagonia region: lamb in a number of different presentations, shellfish, crab and trout.
