ATLANTIC PATAGONIA REGION
This region includes the northwest area of the province of Chubut, south of Buenos Aires and west of Rio Negro. Its special charm lies in the thousands of kilometers of wide beaches with clean sand, temperate water, steep cliffs and huge reefs. The sea, calm and transparent, is ideal for all kinds of water and underwater sports: surf, diving, windsurfing, jet skiing and of course, sport fishing. However, Nature can be enjoyed in other ways as well. Its dunes, gulfs, harbors and riverside boulevards are perfect spots for walks, rides, four-wheel drive excursions and many others. The visitor can stay in small, picturesque seaside villas or in modern cities with the all kinds of urban comforts. All throughout its numerous provincial reserves, protected colonies of penguins, sea lions, seals and other local species can be visited. The main stars of the region are the whales, which between June and December come to give birth to their offspring.
PROVINCE OF CHUBUT
The Atlantic region is one of the three which this province is divided into, the other two being the Andean and Central regions. Together, they make up one of the areas with the lowest density of population in the world. All throughout its territory the visitor will find clear signs of the Welsh community: houses where tea is served the Welsh way and poetry is read out in that language, religious temples and the celebration of Disembarkation Day, commemorating the arrival of the first settlers to these lands. Oil production, petrochemical industries, sheep farming, fishing and tourism are the most important aspects of its economy. Its paleontological sites, located all along the region, display valuable samples of the immense creatures which inhabited the place hundreds of millions years ago. Its cuisine, besides the typical Welsh pastry, shares the main flavours of the rest of the Patagonia region: lamb in a number of different presentations, shellfish, crab and trout.
