| NORTH-WEST REGION Including the provinces of:
SALTA / JUJUY / CATAMARCA / TUCUMAN / SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO
This area, rich in contrasts, allows the visitor to plunge into the historical roots of Latin-American civilization.
Its spinal cord is made up of the Calchaqui Valleys, Altiplano de la Puna and Quebrada de Humahuaca (declared World Heritage), which, as a whole, produce an overwhelming landscape, surprising in its sheer immensity.
The handicrafts in this region are greatly appreciated by local and foreign visitors alike. Ponchos and a variety of knitted clothes are made of wool from llama, alpaca, vicuña, sheep and guanaco. Silverware, basketry and handicrafts are also designed using different types of wood from the region. |
