BUENOS AIRES CITY

Buenos Aires, the Queen of the Plata, cradle of tango and gate to Argentina, is the most European city in Latin America. It was founded in 1536 and its identity is closely linked with the contribution made by immigrants by the end of XIX century and beginnings of XX century, mainly coming from Italy and Spain, but also including Arabs, Polish and English people, among other places. They have given the city the cultural and architectural diversity that makes it so remarkable. Its varied architecture mingles monumental modern structures with low buildings in residential areas, bringing together diverse styles, such as art noveau, neoclassicist, baroque and international styles.

Its neighbouroods
Its many different neighborhoods are a clear sample of this diversity. La Recoleta, chic and prominent, displays clear French and English reminiscences. La Boca, traditional and crowded, used to be the settling point chosen by Italian immigrants a century ago. Puerto Madero, the newest and most spectacular district, houses sophisticated restaurants and super night views. Palermo Viejo, bohemian and lively, combines the latest trends in design with the most refined cuisine. San Telmo offers its rich historical past, its antique stores and tango nights. And so many other districts, with their unique personalities and charm.

Its culture
The city is a remarkable cultural center of high intellectual level, a good example of this being its numerous national and private universities, museums, art galleries, libraries, exhibition centers and publishing houses. We should definitely mention the Colon Theatre, the most important temple of classical music of the South hemisphere and the one with the best acoustic in the world, according to a survey carried out among 22 first-class orchestra directors, surpassing even the Milan 's La Scala.
Its musical options encompass every genre, ranging from opera (symphonic and chamber) to folklore and rock and - of course - tango, romantic and sensual, universally acclaimed, which can be enjoyed in luxurious salons and in spontaneous street shows.
