Located opposite the waters of Golfo Nuevo, its modern urban center is surrounded by hills and dunes. Its wide streets and beautiful boulevard are great attractions, with the port as a good starting point, with its display of luxurious cruises and cargo ships on their way to Antarctica. Aluar, an aluminum factory built beside this port, exports its production through it. The building industry has been steadily growing in the last 5 years, living proof of which is the permanent growth this wealthy city displays. Its transparent, calm and deep waters, together with its rich fauna, turn Puerto Madryn into an ideal place to practice water sports, to such an extent that it has been declared "the Argentine capital of underwater sports". Here, sunlight penetrates 70 meters below the surface, which enables excellent photo shoots and high resolution filming. Among the attractions and activities which summon more and more visitors every year we may mention the many museums and exhibitions devoted to oceanographic matters, numerous scientific and cultural events, sport fishing competitions and the overwhelming visit of the whales, often mere meters away from the beach.
