SOUTH REGION
This is the most beautiful and probably the most popular destination among those tourists eager to combine wonderful landscapes with thrilling sports and activities.
Cold and rainy, this region is surrounded by the splendor of the Mountain Range with its eternal snow, active volcanoes and huge glaciers springing amidst valleys covered with woods. After Mont Harbor and towards the South, the Chilean territory breaks down and changes its physiognomy.
Thousands of islands, canals and fjords crop up. Steep mountains and torrential rivers, running across woods and reaching the sea, make up an incomparably beautiful scenery.
Forest exploitation is the main activity of the area, giving origin to the paper industry, especially devoted to producing paper for newspapers. Sheep farming is also popular here.
This is an ideal place for action sports, such as kayaking, climbing, and trekking. Fly-fishing lovers can find superb trout and salmon in many rivers and lagoons. |
