TERMAS DE PUYUHUAPI

The Termas de Puyuhuapi or Puyuhuapi thermal baths are one of the most important hot springs in Chile , as well as one of the westernmost and most beautiful in the world. Located in the very center of the Chilean Patagonia, in Dorita Bay, it is surrounded by a spectacular scenery made up of native woods and gigantic ferns. Its name means place of pueyes, which is a species of fish, very popular among fishing lovers who find themselves in some kind of paradise here, thanks to the abundance of trout and salmon. In order to arrive here, visitors must travel along a long stretch of the Carretera Austral or Southern Route, coming across dreamlike landscapes and places. Its hyper thermal waters, with strong mineralization, with presence of chloride, sulfate and magnesium among other components, reach temperatures of up to 85 C, though the ones used in treatments are of about 47 C. Its PH of 6,3, similar to the one found in skin, makes it ideal for the treatment of rheumatism, joint ailments, and skin problems. Open all year long, their attractions exceed the water. Some other activities that can be enjoyed here are visits and sightseeing tours to spectacular glaciers, kayak rides, fly fishing, photographic tours, flora and fauna watching, trekking and rafting. Ten km to the south of the thermal center visitors will find Puyuhuapi, a town famous for its production of carpets made by craftsmen. It was founded by German colonists in 1935 and it displays ancient wooden houses and beautiful gardens.
